This Introductory Class is a required first step to enter the Jocassee Wild Naturalist Program.

Join us for an intensive study of the Jocassee Gorges, and all that makes this eco-region one of the last great places on earth. Together we’ll study the Gorges’ geology, plants, animals, weather patterns, and stream and lake ecology, and then we’ll take a look at how these subjects are influenced by changing seasons. We’ll also explore the history and recreational opportunities of Lake Jocassee and the Jocassee Gorges. Once we become certified Jocassee Wild Naturalists, there will be many opportunities for advanced study in a wide variety of specific subjects, including Mountain Medicine, Lichens, Ferns, Loons and Winter Birdlife, and much more!
This Introductory Class is a required first step to becoming a certified Jocassee Wild Naturalist. We will be introduced to the subjects, the instructors, appropriate reading material, and an overview of this spectacular place called the Jocassee Gorges.
We will not be able to enter the Jocassee Wild Naturalist Program without taking an Introductory Class.
